Tips to help during bonfire season
Top ten tips for bonfire night

With fire work season fast approaching, here are some ideas to help reduce anxiety in pets when the flashes and bangs get to much.....

• Start preparations early, don’t wait for him to become distressed

• Close curtains, put the lights on and play music to disguise noises and flashes.

• Don’t overly sympathise with him, he is more likely to perceive this as approval of his nervous behaviour.

• Provide a “den” or safe place in which he can retreat.

• Engage him in energetic exercises throughout the day so that he is physically tired and more likely to relax in the evening.

• Stuffed toys or chews may provide a usefull distraction.

• Using homeopathic remedies and other anxiety products will help him stay calm and relaxed.

• Be calm yourself. If you are stressed he is more likely to be stressed.

• Try to keep to his usual routine as familiarity tends to improve Confidence.

• Work on a behaviour modification programme for next year.
