found a stray cat
Hi dont know if anyone can advise, i have a stray cat that i would like to take in but have been advised that if i get him neutered the owners could turn up an sue. i am worried and wondered how long i should wait. the cat has been reported found with all local vets etc. does anyone know how long i would have to wait before i can adopt him?

Have you registered the cats details on all the appropriate websites for missing animals? Someone out there will be distraught..how do you know he is a stray?

Someone must surely be missing him badly. If you have ever lost a cat I am sure you will know how distressing it is. It would be decent and noble if you check with a vet if the cat is microchipped (this service is free) and if not, please put some posters up in your area and advertise on websites (mymoggy.com; animalsearch.co.uk). These websites are free.

All the best.

RE: found a stray cat
I lost my cat Six years ago and know how distressing this is as he was never found.
The cat hasnt moved from my garden for at least two weeks possibly three . I have taken him to the vets to check whether he is microchipped. I have told vets in area cats protection league, local shops and rspca.
I have even put an identity disc on him with a note in case he lives nearby and he goes home with a message in it to advise where he is so the owner can come and get him.
I cannot leave him sat there hungry so have been feeding him and given him shelter outside.
I tried not feeding him for two days to see if he would go home.
I cannot do any more in trying to find his owner than what i am doing.
The cat has also been registered on the missing pets register.

In answer to how do i know he is a stray, he has no microchip, no collar, has worms, has fleas hasnt been neutered and has tattered ears.
